Judith
Zukerman, Chicago native and long time Wisconsin resident,
enjoys returning to places she loves by writing poems. Her
book, Amsterdam Days was published in October, 2004 and her
CD Amsterdam Days was released in February, 2005.
"I grew
up in a three generation household where oral storytelling
was a part of life along with a deep love and reverence for
books. I loved making up stories. I formally entered a writer's
world as I approached my jubilee year, my fiftieth birthday,
bringing the richness of a life fully lived. Five major influences
were my work experiences, my social activism, my deep connection
to my Judaism, to feminism, and living in other countries
for three years. Working to become fluent in three languages
other than English and connecting to the poetry and literature
of poets and writers in five languages other than English
has deepened my own love of language and shown me the unique
beauty of each language and its connection to the culture
and people who use it."
Recent
work includes Wisconsin Poets' Calendar 2005, New Millenium
Awards Contest semi-finalist, and Mind's Eye Radio Collective
programs on themes of romance and reality, music, exotic places,
aging, Madison at the Overture Center Performance Arts Center
opening and it could always be worse. Her writing was enriched
by a Norcroft Writer's Residency in 2004.
Earlier
writing appeared in Calliope, Free Verse, Grace, Neovictorian
Cochlea and Peninsula Pulse. Her photography and writing was
included in Cobblestone and she was a semi-finalist of the
Discovery/Nation Poetry Contest.
